"Here to help you heal, feel better, happier and start enjoying life again"

About Rebecca Tanhara, MBACP

Rebecca has been supporting adults and young people with diverse backgrounds and ranges of concern on their healing journeys for over 10 years. In addition to her counselling career, she has worked for many years within the NHS, gaining a deeper understanding of mental health issues and the pressures of demanding environments. Her role volunteering with an organisation offering bereavement aftercare, involved supporting individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Rebecca understands that the healing process following a loss or significant life event requires patience and time.

Working within the NHS Talking Therapies (formerly known as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies, IAPT) has given her a greater appreciation of the importance of accessible and compassionate care.

Rebecca's specialty encompasses working with people who are managing unhealthy/difficult relationships or dealing with traumatic life experiences.

At Tranquil Minds, we aim to provide you with the tools to gain insight and self-awareness that will help you to cultivate personal growth and positive change in your life.

As a mental health professional, she is particularly passionate about helping clients identify unhealthy patterns of relating and coping mechanisms that may have developed in childhood, contributing to low confidence, self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression, or difficulties in current relationships.

The decision to commence therapy can be a life-changing one and Rebecca approaches her practice with this in mind. At Tranquil Minds counselling, we believe firmly that healing happens on the foundation of a trusting, authentic relationship. We are dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful therapeutic space for our clients.

We work with each person collaboratively to address immediate as well as long-standing issues and concerns with a particular focus on understanding underlying causes. She truly believes that the relationship between therapist and client is crucial in overcoming difficulties that can sometimes be hard to discuss.

Our therapeutic approach involves understanding and engaging with your inner conflicts in order to alleviate distress and increase your awareness. Her goal is to enhance each individual's inherent capacity for growth, development and self-awareness.

No matter what you're going through, whether it's relationship issues, bereavement, depression, anxiety or self-esteem, we want you to know that there is hope. As a therapist, Rebecca is committed to helping you become more conscious of your life choices and obstacles on our journey

During your initial session, we'll go over the Working Agreement and take the time to understand your history, reasons for seeking therapy, and identify approaches that may work well for you. By the end of this session, it's important to us that we have agreed upon a way of working that feels comfortable and supportive to you.

Flexible Counselling Tailored to Your Needs

Throughout our sessions, we'll regularly discuss the number of sessions that may be beneficial for you. You are never tied to a predetermined set of sessions, and we can end when you feel it's appropriate. However, whenever possible, we encourage having an ending session to ensure a planned and safe conclusion to our therapeutic journey together.

How we work

In our sessions, we provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental therapeutic space where we can explore both your present and past issues. We understand that in order to understand your current struggles, it can be helpful to delve into your earliest childhood relationships. That's why we take an integrative approach to therapy, drawing on different therapeutic approaches to offer a unique and tailored experience for each client. We recognise that every person has different life experiences, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all counselling approach.

Our Approach: Tailored Therapy for Your Unique Needs

During our sessions, we may incorporate different therapeutic approaches based on what will be most beneficial for you. Here are some approaches that we may draw upon:

  • Gestalt Therapy: This approach focuses on increasing self-awareness and understanding by exploring the present moment experience and the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
  • Transactional Analysis (TA): TA helps to examine and improve interpersonal communication patterns, as well as uncovering unconscious scripts and beliefs that may impact relationships and personal growth.
  • Somatic Experiencing (SE): SE is a body-oriented approach that helps release stored traumatic energy and promotes healing from the effects of trauma, restoring balance and resilience.
  • Person-Centred Therapy (PCT): PCT emphasises empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuine understanding, creating a supportive environment for self-exploration and personal growth.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy/Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CBT/CAT): These evidence-based approaches explore the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to develop practical strategies for managing challenges and fostering positive change.
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT): DBT combines acceptance and change-based strategies to help individuals regulate emotions, improve interpersonal effectiveness, and cultivate mindfulness.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT focuses on accepting difficult thoughts and emotions while committing to meaningful actions aligned with personal values, leading to psychological flexibility and well-being.
  • Mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT): Mindfulness practices cultivate present-moment awareness and self-compassion, reducing stress and enhancing overall well-being.

Working Together for Your Growth

By integrating these various approaches, we can tailor our sessions to meet your unique needs and goals. Whether we're exploring past experiences, managing current challenges, or developing new coping strategies, we will work collaboratively with you to create a supportive and empowering therapeutic journey. Together, we will build resilience, foster personal growth, and enhance your overall well-being.
